About The Boroughers

Throughout 2018, your two correspondents will be visiting all 32 London boroughs and rating them.

We made a new year's resolution to visit every borough in London. Turns out the Mayor recently launched an inaugural "borough of culture" campaign, so it's the perfect time to do so since almost everywhere should be making an effort (though only 22 have actually made a bid). We'll go everywhere, blog our day out, and keep a league table of our opinions.

We've spent ages searching for a centrepiece activity plus any supplementary/bonus things to do, and arranged it in a handy calendar to cater for limited opening hours, seasonality, etc. The only rule is that it can't be something/somewhere either of us have done before. At the end of the day, we'll distil our experience into a single number from 6 to 42, by each rating our day on a 1-7 scale for:

  • Fun: did we enjoy our day? Yes, I/we will downgrade a borough if it rains on the day.
  • Learning: did we learn anything? Not everything cultural is specifically educational, but if we're starting from an ignorant base we can't fail to pick up some knowledge.
  • Nice: were the surroundings and natives nice, or was it sketchy and bleak? But not bleak in a good way.

The Boroughers are Darren (yours truly) and Helen, a south/north couple what currently live in the posh Surrey/London borders, having migrated from the scummy Surrey/London border and beautiful Yorkshire respectively.
