Week 11: Saturday
Back to life, back to reality
I hadn’t done my local Parkrun for 4 weeks, what with being away or it being cancelled or me just outright refusing to do it in Storm Darragh. So it was kind of nice to be back.
Warmup
2km warmup, started slowly and just kept speeding up. Ran past regular first finisher Andy, in the opposite direction. He looked surprised. But, I mean, come on - I’m wearing my long sleeved 250 shirt, of course I’m going.
Second km would’ve been MUCH faster than the first had the last 100 metres not been the very steep pedestrian bridge over the railway. D’oh. I lost something like 30 seconds there. Tried in vain to keep a jogging motion on the stairs but they’re too steep really.
Parkrun 392 // 98th at Broadwater
Got a PB on the new course! Which isn’t saying much, since it was only my third attempt and the first where I wasn’t running deliberately conversational pace. Also I didn’t fall over.
Conditions underfoot pretty ropey, especially in the super muddy section that gets super muddy at the first rain of autumn and stays super muddy until, I dunno, April or so. The golf course bit wasn’t so bad, possibly because fewer people go around it midweek or maybe it’s just not affected as much.
Time was 28:16, fastest at Broadwater since July actually. My head was absolutely pounding at the end in a way I haven’t had after a run for a long while. I should probably be pleased with the time though. Also I had to look up how many Broadwaters I’ve done in order to write this post and turns out I’m now scheduled to run my 100th Broadwater Parkrun on Christmas Day. Neat!
