Week 4: Friday
Over and over and over again
Despite being a deload week, Runna decided I should do fast intervals. Not gonna lie, I was intimidated by this one. Even more so after I enjoyed a bit more beer last night than originally intended, though I didn’t wake up feeling too bad. Shit weather though.
200m repeats
So, yeah. fast. Runna said:
Eek. 4.35/km isn’t a wholly unfamiliar pace, even recently, and I’m still getting used to having rest periods - but doing it ten times had me a bit worried that for the first time I’d kinda “fail” at a Runna workout. Sergeant Major voice on…
Set out in the gloom just after 0700. Really glad the clocks change this weekend and it will be light at like 0620 for a little while (especially as my long runs get longer!). Nothing to say about the warm up, the 10 second bursts were fine, the pace averaged at 5:57/km, well done me. Did I look worried about the fast stuff about to start?
So then. Ten lots of 4:35/km 200 metre repeats. Unlike the rolling 200s from last week, the stretch of path in the local park works well when there’s a walking break between the reps. Here’s what I managed:
- 4:10, 4:20, 4:05, 4:10, 4:00, 4:10, 4:10, 4:15, 4:10, 4:20
Lolz. I mean, I felt able to go faster so I did. I’m pleased with it. I’m alright at finding a pace and holding it, but 200 metres is kinda short and if I start too fast there’s not enough of it left to counter. So I don’t.
Number of dogs which took exception to me: 2.
Was puffing a bit after the 10th rep, unsurprisingly. I need a shave.
Cool down was at 5:30/km. I’m really pleased with how the whole workout went, and I might even go so far as to say I … enjoyed it, I think? Maybe when the pyramids turn up I will feel differently, but I’m calling today a success.
