Week 8: Monday - easy run
Easing into the week
Being a man of my word, yesterday I did what I said I might: went into Runna and modified the training plan to tell it that Wednesday was no longer going to be my long run day, but Saturday would be instead. The app said it would not be changing the types of quantities of workouts but would have to recalculate the calendar, and when it came back I noticed it had done this for next week:
Um, what? Only two days, with two workouts on both? That’s dumb, and clearly not what should have happened. Seemed like all the other weeks were normal, but for some reason that one had gone wrong. Never mind, I rearranged it to my preferences and then was going to raise a bug.
Ah. I guess they know already. Fine.
Anyway. The rejigged week 8 started with … 7km easy, just like week 7 finished. Back to back easy runs, woohoo.
7km easy
We’re still camped out in the living room as the bedroom takes a while to redecorate, and Sunday night was my worst night’s sleep yet on the chaise longue. Not because it’s uncomfortable, but because of the bloody cat being way too affectionate at 3am. There’s not even anywhere to banish him to at the moment. Bah.
So not an ideal start to the day. Felt a bit stiff and not in the mood for a run, but hey, at least it was 7km easy and not some faster or harder thing which is how many previous weeks have started.
Conversational pace is now “no faster than 5:50/km” (a little slower than it was before The Great Adjustment). I averaged 6:02/km with an average heart rate of 137bpm, very low. Smashrun told me it was my “lowest max heart rate in a year”. These are good things, I think? I actually unwittingly ran it almost completely progressive/negative splits: 6:14, 6:08, 6:00, 6:00, 5:56, 5:59, 5:53.
Looking ahead
In the new plan structure, supposedly I am meant to go out tomorrow morning too. The Met Office app says tomorrow’s weather is going to be extremely grim: it’ll be cold at 6am, and getting colder and colder all the way to midday. There will also be strong winds, which will be annoying in their own right but also bring the perceived temperature way down.
🤔 I might move tomorrow’s workout to Weds.
